English Lake District

Photos and comments about the beautiful English Lake District.I am lucky to live and work in the Central Lake District. I can be found at the National Trust shop and Information Centre in Grasmere. My drive to work is along the A591 from Ambleside to Grasmere, voted one of the most scenic drives in England. There are never two days alike. From a coating of snow on the tops, to a heron sitting in the river at Rydal it is always changing. This is my attempt to share it with you. I hope you enjoy it.

I am also a Grasmere Tribod, so am happy to help you plan your visit to this wonderful part of the world. You can also find me on Pocketvillage where you will find personalised walks I would love to take you on if visiting Grasmere village. Both are available through the links on this blog.

  1. I’m running a sound project about Cumbria. A little about the project

Cumbria Remixed is a sound project using digital technologies to investigate and remix the soundscape of Cumbria. It will look at creating a lively dialogue between old and new, young and old through field recordings of Cumbrian environments, and Cumbrian people’s tales, tunes, stories and songs. I will use digital technology to remix and remould our environment and our stories to create new soundscapes and songs. Cumbria remixed is a project by Shaun Blezard for Lanternhouse.

Would you like to contribute? I am looking for sound recordings from Cumbria to add to the project, they can be in any format and can be of absolutely anything – A song, a story, a recording of your environment really anything.

The only things that I require is that
    1. The sound was recorded in or about Cumbria.
    2. you are happy donate the sound to the project and that you agree that the recording is either your own or there are no copyright issues with the use of the recording.
    3. Any recording deemed inappropriate will not be used.

All the recording will be made available for public use under creative commons licence so others can remix and use them.

If you would like to join in the fun you can use the dropbox on our soundcloud page or email/file share etc to

    • Interesting project. Have contributed my 90+ Yr old/young in-laws talking about their early life. Good luck, hope you get lots of Cumbrian recordings!
