Holehird Gardens Troutbeck

August 28, 2013

A little oasis at any time of year. Not far from the hustle and bustle of Windermere and Ambleside, Holehird Gardens is an absolute gem.

Situated on Patterdale road just off the little mini roundabout on the A591 called Cooks Corner. Holehird is easy to find. Don’t be fooled by the closed gates, they will open and Holehird is open from dawn to dusk every day.

You could easily spend a morning at Holehird. There is plenty to see. Why not bring a picnic and enjoy the views. There is free parking and toilet facilities but no cafe. Having said that there was a newly installed drinks machine when I was there last.

Fancy a walk?. Highlands wood, a semi-naural oak woodland with lots of wildlife can be accessed from Holehird.

Make sure you have a look in the greenhouses when at Holehird, there are some fascinating plants.

My favourite time of year to visit is Spring when the daffodils are in bloom, and the views are more open as the trees still don’t have too much foliage.

But I also like Autumn when the colours can be breathtaking. So if you want a little bit of peace and quiet in the Lake District, make your way to Holehird.
