Frozen Stockghyll Waterfall, Ambleside

January 16, 2010

Now that the thaw seems to have set in at last and the snow is clearing from the streets, I realised that I hadn’t uploaded photos of Stockghyll Waterfall in Ambleside which was almost completely frozen. Having lived near the waterfall for over 30 years I have seen it during, floods, droughts etc, but never frozen like this.

It was a bit risky walking round because the snow was so high the railings on the far side wouldn’t really have stopped you falling, so I proceeded with caution. As I went round the sun kept peeping through the trees and then I saw a movement and slowly turning, saw 3 deer having an afternoon stroll.
